Shaan Chopra
I'm a 3rd-year PhD student in Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington, advised by James Fogarty and Sean Munson. I conduct research at the intersection Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Health to create inclusive technologies that help people better understand, experiment, and make decisions based on personal health data.
In my more than 7 years of experience of work in this area, I have focused on health equity and designing to support the use of personal data in clinical settings. I have conducted community-based research and studied topics that carry stigma in different communities (e.g., menstrual health, fertility disorders, child developmental screening). I have also worked in clinical health settings to examine patient-provider engagement around health data, leverage self-tracking data to support provider-based clinical care decisions, and design interfaces to support patient-side self-experimentation and sense-making.
I particularly enjoy taking user-centered and participatory approaches to examine sensitive problems within healthcare contexts and self-experimentation.
